Abstract

Continuously affected by the withdrawal of government policies, sales volumes of almost all home appliances in the Chinese market from January to June 2014 declined year-on-year except air conditioner which still managed to keep steady growth compared to the same period of 2013, according to statistics by China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology). As a result, China's Ministry of Commerce estimated that Chinese home appliance sales volume grew 5.3% year-on-year from January to June 2014, with April-May and May-June sales increased by 7.4% and 7.8%, respectively. Among other home appliances, LCD TV sales volume suffered the steepest decline rate at 11.3% compared to the same period last year. Despite the modest sales growth in the first half of 2014, white goods still outperformed brown goods, bolstered mainly by companies selling mainly white goods such as Gree, Midea, and Haier who saw growth in sales in the first half of 2014.
